Description: The Battlefield Boundary feature class represents the polygon locations of the “study areas” identified in the draft Update to the Report on the Nation’s Civil War Battlefields, for the principal battlefields of the Civil War. The update to the report was authorized by the Civil War Battlefield Preservation Act of 2002 and last revised in 2014.The draft report defined “study area” as the maximum delineation of a battlefield, providing the tactical context of the battle and including all places related or contributing to the battle event. The Battlefield Boundary is where troops deployed and maneuvered before, during, and after the engagement. Feature level metadata entered in the attribute table provides additional information about the source and creation of each polygon. All data was edited for accuracy and consistency.
